Is Wegovy available in Canada?
Yes — and has been since May 2024. Health Canada authorized it in November 2021, but Novo Nordisk didn’t bring it to Canadian pharmacies until a few years later. You’ll find it at most major chains now (Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Loblaws, Walmart pharmacies, and independents) across all provinces.
How much does Wegovy cost in Canada?
Without insurance, expect roughly $400–$540 a month. With private coverage that includes Wegovy, co-pays usually land between $0 and $80 monthly. Public drug plans in most provinces don’t cover it yet.
| Coverage scenario | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Uninsured (retail) | ~$400–$540 |
| Private insurance, where covered | ~$0–$80 |
| Public drug plans | Generally not covered |
Actual cost varies by dose strength and pharmacy. Some private and employer plans cover it with prior authorization — Cloudcure can help with the paperwork.
Wegovy dose strengths
The pen comes in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg, all dosed once weekly. Each strength is a separate pen, which matters when you’re filling a prescription — call ahead to make sure your pharmacy has the one you need.

Wegovy® (semaglutide) — Product Information
Wegovy® (semaglutide) is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist approved by Health Canada as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults. It is manufactured by Novo Nordisk Canada Inc.
Health Canada–Authorized Indication
Wegovy is indicated for chronic weight management in adults with:
- A body mass index (BMI) of ≥30 kg/m² (obesity), or
- A BMI of ≥27 kg/m² with at least one weight-related comorbidity such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, or obstructive sleep apnea
How Wegovy Works
Semaglutide activates GLP-1 receptors in the brain regions that regulate appetite and food intake. This reduces hunger, increases satiety, and slows gastric emptying — leading to reduced caloric intake when combined with diet and exercise.
Clinical Results — STEP 1 Trial
In the STEP 1 phase 3 trial (n=1,961 adults with overweight or obesity, without type 2 diabetes):
- Participants on 2.4 mg weekly semaglutide lost an average of 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks vs 2.4% on placebo
- 86% of participants achieved ≥5% weight loss, 50% achieved ≥15%, and 32% achieved ≥20%
