When will Zepbound be available in Canada?

As of early 2024, Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Zebound has not submitted it to Health Canada for approval. Zepbound currently only remains approved by the FDA for sale in the US.

Zepbound will be made available by Eli Lilly for distribution in Canada after it has been approved by Health Canada. However, your medical practitioner may be able to recommend other options, including tirzepatide, as effective treatment options.

What is Zepbound?

Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that has been approved by Health Canada for the treatment of Type-2 diabetes, and is also prescribed for weight loss in a program that includes diet and exercise.

Similar to Mounjaro, which also contains the same active ingredient, Zepbound is expected to be made available in Canada as pre-filled single-dose injectors, or as a single dose vial.

Health Canada's regulations require confirming your patient status to learn more. Please provide the Drug Identification Number (DIN) from your product packaging.

How does Zepbound work?

Zepbound contains tirzepatide, the first and only once-a-week active ingredient, which activates two receptors: GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). This increases insulin production while decreasing glucagon levels, which, in turn, decreases blood glucose levels in the body. It also reduces food intake, and slows down the speed at which your stomach digests food.
